How to Take a Great Photograph for Your Custom Photo Blanket
Note: We refer to our Custom Photo Blankets in many terms throughout our site. We may call them personalized photo blankets, custom photo blankets, personalized blankets, picture blankets, woven photo blankets or blankets with pictures. We are referring to the same product but many people call them different things.
-Choose a simple background: Any photo will work for a personalized photo blanket. We prefer at least a 5X7 photo. For digital photographs, please make sure that they were taken by a 3 megapixel or better camera. Once we receive the image, we will re-size it appropriately for you to make your photo blanket.
-Choose your scene wisely: When choosing a scene for a personalized blanket you want a simple background. However, make sure it is an appealing one. Photos are used to tell a story, thus using props and having an appropriate background can add to the significance and appeal of the photo blanket. Avoid putting subjects in gaudy or flashy clothing that clashes with the background. These things can take the focus out of the subject of your photo blanket.
-Focus on subject: Take your photo at an appropriate distance from your subject. Standing too far from your subject causes the camera to capture less detail on the subject itself and adds worthless space. Make sure that the subject you wish to capture takes up 75% of the photograph.
-Watch out for shadows: If you photograph where there is a lack of lighting directed at your subject, you risk having shadows show up on the subject’s face, taking away from their features. Perhaps position your subjects near a large white wall or in an area that will bounce light into the face.
-Avoid straight-on photography: When photographing a person it is best to have them turn their heads and body slightly, not directly facing the camera. This helps to avoid “mug shots” and makes the subject seem more natural.
